The Dark Hills Divide Interview
Alexa: Okay Ganesh, or Sebastian, which one do you prefer?
Sebastian: Call me Sebastian; it is my real name not my fake name, which is of course, Ganesh.
Alexa: Sebastian, tell me a bit about your life before you came to Bridewell?
Sebastian: Well, I was brought up in a wealthy community in Ainsworth; my parents were rich, nobles. However when I was fifteen, my parents somehow went broke, and we were left with virtually no money. My parents encouraged me to work but I was a lazy brat brought up with wealth and fame, I didn’t want to work. My parents left me and found some way to be rich again but they did not include me no matter how much I begged.
Alexa: What did you do next?
Sebastian: I guess I was left with no money, no family and no future, I lived this way until someone told me I had better shape up or leave, I of course did neither and by the time I was nineteen I had got a ‘v’ branded on my chest, some of my friends joked that the ‘v’ stood for victory. I was warned again but as you would suspect I was headstrong and did nothing. I was thrown into jail, living in a cell with nine other men that committed so many bad crimes you would have thought I was a butterfly living with nine vultures.
Alexa: What does the ‘v’ actually stand for?
Sebastian: If you go out on the streets and wearing a ‘v’ people would shout at you and call you vermin and run away from you. When I was young and rich I used to carry a bag of rotten tomatoes with me wherever I went, and if I even saw a small section of a ‘v’ I used to throw some rotten tomatoes at them. Although people called you vermin the ‘v; actually stands for Vagabond which means wanderer or gypsy, having no job, stealing from people to survive and not having a home just travelling.
Alexa: What happened after you were put in to the jail cell?
Sebastian: I was about 20yrs old when I went into the jail cell, as I was brought up in a rich community I tried to stay away from everyone as much as I could, though this was incredibly difficult. So I tried playing another tactic I played nice to everyone and soon became a leader. Two years later Warvold came asking if he could use us to build the wall, the guards at Ainsworth agreed readily for this was another way to dispose of us without having to kill us, and said that they would build another prison for us when they got us back.
Alexa: Who was chosen to go with Warvold?
Sebastian: Well out of the 400 of the people in jail, 300 of them were chosen. As I was a leader by then, I got to choose who came and who stayed. I of course choose those who were kind to me and those who would be easiest to lead, I didn’t take those who would stand up and question what I said. I also took those who were the strongest as that means there would be less work for me.
Alexa: How did Warvold manage to get all three hundred convicts over here in one go?
Sebastian: Why should I tell you?
Alexa: Because there are guards just outside, and as soon as I press this button they will come in, so if you don’t want to be arrested you better tell me.
Sebastian: Fine, have it your way, Warvold took us in groups of 50, I of course was in the first group, on the way we had guards watching our every move. When we got to Bridewell some of the guards went back with Warvold to get more of the convicts. So we had fewer guards watching us although there was still quite a large number. At night was the only time we weren’t being watched by the guards so we *hesitate* fell straight asleep.
Alexa: you’re lying.
Sebastian: No I am not, how dare you say that.
Alexa: You are lying as you hesitated over the words and you looked away from me when you said it.
Sebastian: What if I am lying, what are you going to do about it?
Alexa: *sigh* remember this big, red button; remember how if I press it you will go to jail.
Sebastian: Yes, yes I know, but to get this information, I want something in return.
Alexa: What do you want?
Sebastian: *evil laugh* now we are talking. I want to be freed *whisper* so I can return to my loved one, whoops.
Alexa: Did you just say loved one?
Sebastian: no!
Alexa: you are lying again!
Sebastian: Oh all right I have a loved one that is outside the wall.
Alexa: Who is it, is it someone I know! Wait a second the only people that has ever been outside the wall is me, Yipes, Warvold, Renny and the convicts but Warvold is dead and Yipes is a boy, I am definitely not your loved one and the convicts are all boys so who could it be? Wait, what about Renny isn’t she dead so it can’t be her can it, unless she didn’t actually die and Warvold just made it up so no one would question where she went. It is Renny isn’t it?
Sebastian *blush* no it is not Renny.
Alexa: *sigh* lying again what am I going to do with you. It is Renny. How could Renny go out with you, I sure wouldn’t.
